چکیده
We present some results on character degree sums in connection with several important characteristics of finite groups such as p-solvability, solvability, supersolvability, and nilpotency. Some of them strengthen known results in the literature.

We study the p-adic absolute value of the roots of the L-functions associated to certain twisted character sums, and additive character sums associated to polynomials P (x d), when P varies among the space of polynomial of fixed degree e over a finite field of characteristic p. For sufficiently large p, we determine in both cases generic Newton polygons for these L-functions, which is a lower b...
متن کاملSe p 20 05 A CHARACTERIZATION OF L 2 ( 2 f ) IN TERMS OF CHARACTER ZEROS ∗
The aim of this paper is to classify the finite nonsolvable groups in which every irreducible character of even degree vanishes on at most two conjugacy classes. As a corollary, it is shown that L2(2 f ) are the only nonsolvable groups in which every irreducible character of even degree vanishes on just one conjugacy class.

متن کاملGroups with Two Extreme Character Degrees and their Minimal Faithful Representations
for a finite group G, we denote by p(G) the minimal degree of faithful permutation representations of G, and denote by c(G), the minimal degree of faithful representation of G by quasi-permutation matrices over the complex field C. In this paper we will assume that, G is a p-group of exponent p and class 2, where p is prime and cd(G) = {1, |G : Z(G)|^1/2}. Then we will s...
متن کاملLifts of Points on Curves and Exponential Sums
We give bounds for exponential sums over curves defined over Galois rings. We first define summation subsets as the images of lifts of points from affine opens of the reduced curve, and give bounds for the degrees of their coordinate functions. Then we get bounds for exponential sums, extending results of Kumar et al., Winnie Li over the projective line, and Voloch-Walker over elliptic curves a...
